About the artist
Ordinary moments, kept in colour.
Alyona Zavidina (b. 1990, Ukraine) is a self-taught painter living and working in Italy. She grew up in eastern Ukraine and paints ordinary moments, such as meals outdoors, embraces, still lifes and summers by the river, in two-colour oil palettes built from structured, hatched brushwork. Her work has been selected for the Samsung Art Store on The Frame and featured in Arts to Hearts Magazine and ART Odyssey: HEALING (2026). It is held in private collections in Europe, Asia and US. "I paint what a safe place leaves behind once the story of it has faded: the heat of a childhood afternoon, a basket of peaches on a striped skirt, a television carried out into the garden. I grew up in Ukraine and live in Italy, and I work in oil with complementary colours, orange against teal, pink against grey, laid down in hatched strokes, because that is how feeling settles in the body: layer by layer, over years. Each canvas is a light-filled room with one or two figures in it, a place to stand still for a moment, which is what sanctuary has always been."
